Lilly is a neuroscientist, he want to know if dolphin could say human language, it is a interesting research, is it right? But you won’t think so if you know the later events. He let his associate Margaret Howe to live with the dolphin Peter at first, because Lilly thought that Peter was just like a baby, Margaret should teach him to talk as if she was his mother, but this method failed, then Lilly changed his strategy and got another idea, he thought that maybe Peter needed a girlfriend, so Margaret began to rub Peter’s genitals, they wanted him to cooperate perfectly to learn language in this way, on my god, to satisfy a dolphin’s sexual also became a pare of this experiment. And more than that, Lilly still believed Peter could learn human language, so they gave the dolphin LSD and made this as a last resort. Lilly spent a lot of time on this experiment, but this theatrical experiment also hurt his reputation, later, he lost his funding for research. Unfortunately, in 1904, there was a shooting incident t happened to Pelorus Jack, somebody on SS Penguin tried to shoot Pelorus Jack with a rifle. After this incident, Pelorus Jack was protected by a 1904 New Zealand law. April 1912 was the last time the crew saw Jack, according to the research, Jack’s death was due to natural causes. Pelorus Jack is a hero and also the first sea creature protected by law in any country. We would miss him, especially those crewmen.
